MUMBAI: The Indian seafarers of the Cruise ship “Marella Discovery” finally disembarked in the port of Mumbai on 23rd April, 2020 and will be on way to their homes soon after clearing all required formalities as per the Ministry of Home directives.
The seafarers thank Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, Hon’ble Shipping Minister, Shri Mansukh Mandaviya and National Union of Seafarers of India (NUSI) for bringing them back. Shri Abdulgani Y . Serang, General Secretary-cum-Treasurer, NUSI stated “It was a collective effort of many stakeholders at State and National level in this positive development during the pandemic of CORONA. We appreciate the support and direction of Hon’ble Shipping Minister, Shri Mansukh Mandaviya in convincing the Home Ministry to take urgent steps in coordination with our Maritime Administration. This is the beginning of the process for the seafarers in Indian ports. The next step is to get all our seafarers who are awaiting repatriation in foreign countries at the earliest to join their families back home in India.
