VADODARA: TGP Projects India Pvt. Ltd (Trans Global Projects) is the Indian arm of the Trans Global Projects Group (TGP), one of the World’s leading providers of project logistics management. Ably guided and led by its co-Managing Directors, Mr Girish Pandey and Mr Manoj Mehra, both having over 30 years of experience in cargo, transport and logistics, the company recently successfully handled key long-pending projects pertaining to Honduras and Brazil ex India, in addition to a Nepal hydro project ex Germany to the site in Nepal. In an exclusive interaction with
Daily Shipping Times, Mr Girish Pandey elaborates on the how the projects were efficiently executed.
Can you give us a brief about the Brazil and Honduras projects Trans Global handled recently?
Trans Global Projects recently successfully managed two long-pending projects pertaining to Honduras and Brazil ex India. These comprised multiple containers & break bulk cargo, in association with the Brazil office.
Cont’d. from Pg. 3
The project was in the market for the past two years but, unfortunately, no players were able to move the cargo due to the frequent changes in the volatile shipping market.
Finally, it was handled by Trans Global Projects under the guidance of myself & Mr Manoj Mehra.
Could you provide some details of the consignments carried for the projects?
The volume and other details are as follows:
Shipment 1 from Nhava Sheva to Puerto Cortes:
Pkgs 150 Nos/Gross tonnage 350 tons/1,300 CBM.
The packages were 24 metres long and 6 metres wide.
Shipment 2 from Nhava Sheva to Paranagua:
Pkgs 180 Nos/Gross tonnage 400 tons/1,200 CBM.
Major Cargo:
Girder: 2380 x 283 x 413 – CMS – LXWXH/2
Nos. 39.5 Mts/Pkg
Crab Frame: 526 x 445 x 163 – CMS - LXWXH/2
Nos. 58.7 Mts/Pkg
Crab Assembly: 910 x 410 x 280 – CMS – LXWXH/2
Nos. 19.3 Mts/Pkg
Draft Tube: 640 x 595 x 380 – CMS – LXWXH/1
No. 82 Mts/Pkg.
How many vessels were involved in the carriage?
Six MSC vessels were deployed for the movement. Containers and break bulk were moved to Puerto Cortes, and break bulk to Paranagua. MSC supported Trans Global in executing the shipments & the operations team of Trans Global put in efforts day & night to synchronise the cargo movement. Cargo was arranged under the hook of the vessel & the BBK cargo was loaded onto the vessel using the 80-ton capacity gantry at NSIGT.
What exactly were the projects abroad?
The Honduras project involved the 200 MW El Tornillito scheme, which is under construction on the Ulua river between the municipalities of Villanueva and San Antonio de Cortes.
Then there is the project in Paraguay, the Entidad Binacional Yacyretá (EBY) which is a bi-national JV that operates the Yacyretá hydroelectric dam on the Argentina-Paraguay border. The power station has a total
installed capacity of 3,200 MW and provides power to both countries' grids.
What about the Nepal project?
It involved the Kabeli B1 hydropower station, a run-of-the-river hydroelectricity station located in the Panchthar and Taplejung districts of Mechi Zone in the Eastern Development Region of Nepal. It is along the Kabeli river, near where it is joined by the Iwa river. The flow is used to generate 25 MW of electricity.
In the past too, TGP Projects India (Trans Global Projects) has handled projects to Nepal for the consignee Arun Valley. This project had major hurdles in movement, such as obtaining approval from Indian Customs for
de-stuffed delivery of cargo into Nepal. This was a challenge but became possible due to the great support from Kolkata Customs. Since cargo was supposed to move via
2 different borders i.e. Pani Taki & Birganj, it made things a little more complex. But when complexity comes in, Trans Global Projects’ solution-driven team is there with full support to make it possible. The cargo was moved without delay and additional storage charges. This also involved a difficult off-road movement of cargo, 4.5 metres wide, on to the top of a mountain which was smoothly done.
Post-completion of the project, Trans Global was appreciated   by the shipper and consignee alike.
How do you view the Indian logistics market?
In financial year 2021, the size of the Indian logistics market was around $250 billion. It is estimated that this market would grow to $380 billion in 2025 at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) between 10 to 12 per cent.
How would you assess Indian capex and FDI investment?
India is becoming an export hub thanks to low manufacturing costs and strong capabilities in technology. Government initiatives like production linked incentive schemes have also been facilitators. FDI investments have increased by about 65% between 2015 and 2020 and
capex has surged to $100 billion, the year-on-year increase being 35%.
How does your global parent view the Indian market?
TGP CEO Mr Colin Charnock says that TGP India’s main offering is project logistics management. He notes: “Our principal focus is on serving the export market from India for oil and gas, power and renewable industries to project locations worldwide, and also on selected construction projects within India.”
Your final conclusion about India and its potential markets?
Today and in the future, India’s requirement is for comprehensive end-to-end logistics solutions. As a result, the sector will continue to see consolidation, process standardisation, technological advancement and digital transformation for increased agility and integration not just across modes of transportation but also between users and third-party service providers. Customers seek efficient, cost-effective, customised solutions. The emergence of third-party logistics (3PL) and fourth-party logistics (4PL) service providers would address complex supply chain difficulties. Expertise in technical feasibility studies,
study of rivers depths/currents, and making bypass and temporary jetty at right locations have become
important along with choosing the right kind of ship
with proper crane capacity. TGP is today growing because of its technical expertise.
