Coastal shipping offers several advantages over other modes of transportation in terms of cost and volume. This means that voluminous cargo can be easily carried through coastal shipping. In a recent study, it has been found that the diversion of 5% of cargo transportation to shipping can result in an annual saving of around INR 20 billion and a reduction of 6% in harmful chemicals and pollutants.
