SINGAPORE : PIL's Chairman, Mr Y. C. Chang was conferred the International Maritime Centre (Individual) Award by Maritime Port Authority (MPA) for his contribution to the Singapore shipping industry at the biennial Singapore International Maritime Awards on April 21, 2015.

 

In his speech during the Award presentation on April 21, 2015 Mr Lui Tuck Yew, Minister of Transport and Second Minister of Defence, referred to our Chairman as a true pioneer whom we honour as Singapore celebrates 50 years of nationhood. PIL's growth from its incorporation in 1967 to its current status as the 18th largest containership operator in the world, mirrors the development of Singapore as a nation, and its transformation to become an International Maritime Centre.

 

Mr Lui mentioned that shipping was, is, and will continue to be important to Singapore.

 

The International Maritime Centre (Individual) Award is given by MPA to the individual who has contributed significantly towards the development of Singapore as an International Maritime Centre.

 

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) was established on 2 February 1996, as a statutory board under the Ministry of Transport in Singapore.

 

Over the past decade, MPA's roles have grown beyond that of growing the key functions of developing Singapore as a premier global hub port.
