NEW DELHI: India’s merchandise exports to the European Union have recorded strong growth, with Spain, Germany, Belgium and Poland emerging as key destination markets, reflecting a diversification of trade flows within the bloc.
According to official data, shipments to these four countries have risen faster than overall exports to the EU, driven by higher demand for engineering goods, chemicals, textiles, pharmaceuticals, marine products and electronics. Spain and Poland, in particular, have seen robust growth from a relatively lower base, while Germany and Belgium continue to remain major, high-value markets for Indian exporters.
Trade analysts say the trend highlights India’s improving competitiveness and deeper integration with EU supply chains, aided by supply diversification away from traditional sources and growing interest among European buyers in Indian manufacturing.
The momentum comes as India and the EU continue negotiations on a proposed Free Trade Agreement (FTA), which exporters expect could further boost market access, reduce tariffs and strengthen long-term trade ties once concluded.
