NAVI MUMBAI : Gateway Terminal India (GTI), a JV between APM Terminals and CONCOR is a world class container terminal in JNPT handling 45% of the Port’s volume.
The company has employed more than 500 people directly and 2,000 indirectly, a majority of them are project affected people from the local area.
On May 30, 2012 some employees instigated an illegal flash strike which endangered the employees and equipment's safety. Given the seriousness of the offence and misconduct, company took immediate action against the three workmen and one supervisor.
Subsequently as agreed in the meeting with the members of Prakalpa Sangarsha Samiti in the office of DCP, Panvel and President of Samiti Shri. D.B. Patil, the company conducted an Independent Enquiry while giving all reasonable opportunities to them. All three workmen were found guilty in the enquiry hence their services were terminated as per Company's Policy.
The Samiti demanded their reinstatement while calling for an agitation /Rasta Roko from September 24 , 2012.
To ensure normal operations the company has appealed to all concerned authorities including Hon'ble Civil Court, Uran.
The Samiti has now postponed the agitation to October 8, 2012.
The company has utmost respect for Shri D.B. Patil and has remained in constant dialogue with the Samiti.
Presently company is facing financial loss due to tariff reduction by TAMP and shift of business to Gujarat ports.
Such Agitations/ Bandh will further impact the business and livelihood of families of this area.
We sincerely appeal to Shri D.B. Patil and Samiti Members to allow normal functioning of the terminal.
