AHMEDABAD : The low translation of investments committed at successive Vibrant Gujarat Summits into actual investments notwithstanding, Shri Narendrabhai Modi, Hon’ble Chief Minister and Gujarat Government is going all out to promote the upcoming Vibrant Gujarat Summit, scheduled for January 11-13, 2013.
“Vibrant Gujarat Summit is now a brand in itself. The coming edition will be bigger and better than the previous editions in all ways”. The event will provide a platform for various states of India and other countries to co-operate and explore attractive business opportunities.
Under the series of Sectoral Seminars, the Port Sector seminar will be a significant event. To focus on this extraordinary achievement in port and shipping industry and to address the challenges created by rapid growth, Gujarat Maritime Board (GMB) organizes a one day conference on Ports & Shipping: Challenges and Way Forward' on July 2, 2012 at Ahmedabad.
The Chief Guest of the function will be Hon'ble Minister of State for Industries, Finance, Energy & Petrochemicals, GOG, Shri Saurabhbhai Patel and Shri A. K. Joti, IAS, Chief Secretary, GOG & Chairman, GMB.
GMB has developed Gujarat as the Numero-Uno state in the maritime sector of India. With GMB, Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) will be an official partner for this seminar.
This one day conference will focus on the day to day challenges faced by the industry, as well as strategies to overcome the critical bottlenecks in port and shipping development in the country.
The session will bring together leading experts from industry, Government, academics and institutional worlds who will offer their insights on the challenges faced by the industry as well as strategies to overcome these challenges.
The 12th Plan has set a target of $1trillion for infrastructure development in which the port sector should account for over $50 billion of investment. Further, the session will include a large discussion on the emerging opportunities and challenges in the maritime and port sector. The seminar will focus on how the Port cities will elaborate upon how ports can act as catalyst for port-led development of cities, and conversely, how port performance is directly or indirectly linked with diversified growth factors of infrastructure developments. It will implement integrated IT solutions for Ports and also look into the legal issues in Port Sector. The session will also throw light on the current challenges faced by the Port Sector and the way forward in shipbuilding and ship repairing. It will focus on Ro-Ro Ferry service for optimizing environmental performance and financial viability.
The challenges and strategies will also be examined in light of Gujarat's efforts to develop planned port cities, beginning with Mundra and Pipavav.
