MUMBAI: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has signed off on the proposal to appoint Capt. Binesh Kumar Tyagi as the New Chairman and Managing Director of Shipping Corporation of India Ltd (SCI).
Capt. Tyagi, who is currently serving as Director (L&PS) (Liner and Passenger Services), has been appointed as Chairman & Managing Director of Shipping Corporation of India (SCI), a Navratna PSU under the Ministry of Shipping.
He was earlier recommended by the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) panel on February 4th, 2022. Capt. Tyagi will now replace Mrs. H.K. Joshi, who took over the charge of CMD of the organisation in September 2019.
Capt. Tyagi was among the three candidates who were interviewed for the position of CMD by the selection panel. It is to note that all the shortlisted candidates for the interview were from SCI.
He graduated from Meerut University before joining SCI in 1990 as Trainee Nautical officer. He served onboard various ships in different ranks including Master of the ships. In 2004, he was absorbed as shore officer and served technical, vetting, chartering, fleet personnel departments in various ranks. Overall, he has over 30 years of rich experience in various aspects of shipping.
Capt. Tyagi has all round professional qualifications covering areas like ship operations, navigation, general management, shipping management and legal aspects.
