Tuticorin - V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority, Tuticorin, has recorded a strong performance in rock phosphate cargo handling during the April–December period of 2025, underscoring its growing role in supporting critical industrial supply chains.

During the nine months, the port handled 717.57 million tonnes (MT) of rock phosphate, up from 561.22 MT in the corresponding period of 2024. This marks an absolute increase of 156.35 MT, translating into a robust year-on-year growth of 27.86%.

Port officials attributed the steady rise in volumes to increasing demand from downstream industries and the port’s improved operational efficiency, including streamlined cargo handling processes and better turnaround times.

Rock phosphate is a key raw material for the fertiliser sector, and the higher throughput at V.O. Chidambaranar Port highlights its strategic importance in ensuring the smooth movement of essential bulk commodities to India’s industrial and agricultural value chains. With sustained growth in bulk cargo segments, the port continues to strengthen its position as a vital gateway for the southern region’s trade and industrial logistics.
