AHMEDABAD: Sarjak Container Lines (SCL), part of the Saksham Group of Companies, has expanded its presence in Gujarat with the opening of a new office in Ahmedabad, which will lead SCL’s Western Region, covering Gujarat, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. The move strengthens SCL’s ability to serve the region’s growing base of manufacturers, exporters and project cargo customers.
The move reflects SCL’s strategy of building a stronger on-ground presence in India’s key industrial and trade centres. With Gujarat emerging as a major hub for manufacturing, engineering, infrastructure, automotive, chemicals and exports, the Ahmedabad office will enable SCL to work more closely with customers on their evolving logistics requirements, from containerised exports to complex and time-sensitive project cargo movements.
The new office adds to SCL’s existing Indian network, which includes its headquarters in Mumbai and branches in New Delhi and Chennai, along with a satellite office in Kolkata. Internationally, SCL operates its own offices in Shanghai, Singapore, Dubai, Hamburg and Houston, supported by representatives across other key markets. Its network spans 84 countries and 275 port cities, connecting customers to SCL’s teams across the supply chain, from the Indian factory floor to project sites around the world.
India is building big, and moving big
India is building on a scale it never has before. The Union Budget 2026–27 set aside a record `12.2 lakh crore for capital expenditure, which will turn into power plants, refineries, metro systems, bridges and ports. India is also shipping what it builds. Engineering goods exports reached a record US$122.43 billion in FY2025–26, and much of that is machinery and capital equipment.
The cargo behind this growth doesn't fit in a standard box. Transformers, reactors, turbine components, girders and plant modules are out-of-gauge, heavy and unforgiving. One missed route survey, one wrong lifting plan or one delayed permit can hold up a project worth thousands of crores.
The network must follow the factory
Most of this cargo is designed and built in industrial clusters, often far from the port where it will be shipped. Much of the equipment India imports for its projects is designed and built overseas too. Yet the most important logistics decisions are made at the design stage, long before the cargo reaches a port. Those decisions cover route, equipment, lifting points and permits.
A logistics partner who isn't there when those decisions are made can't influence them. That is the thinking behind SCL's expansion: bring specialist expertise to where cargo is designed and built, in India and abroad, not just to where it's shipped.
Across the world: SCL's own people on India's key trade lanes
India's project cargo moves both ways. Heavy equipment comes in from global manufacturers, and Indian-made capital goods go out to projects abroad. Instead of relying only on agents, SCL has set up its own offices on the trade lanes that matter most to Indian industry:
• Far East: Shanghai, China. At the source of much of the heavy equipment and machinery India imports.
• Southeast Asia: Singapore. A strategic regional base at the crossroads of Asian trade.
• Middle East: Dubai, UAE. Covering the Gulf's energy, infrastructure and project markets.
• Europe: Hamburg, Germany. Close to Europe's engineering and heavy-manufacturing base.
• Americas: Houston, USA. At the heart of the world's energy capital and a major gateway for oil, gas and heavy-industry project cargo.
Representatives across other key regions extend this reach further.
For customers, that means one partner, one standard of service and one point of accountability, with SCL's own people at both ends of the voyage.
Why Ahmedabad
Gujarat is at the centre of India's industrial growth. Its engineering, chemicals, energy and capital goods clusters produce heavy and oversized equipment for India and for export. Kutch is home to the 30 GW Khavda renewable energy park, being built as the world's largest, and every turbine component and transformer for it has to be moved, lifted and delivered to site. The state's ports, including Mundra, Kandla, Hazira and Pipavav, are among India's key gateways for project cargo.
Ahmedabad is the commercial centre of this industrial base, which makes it a natural addition to SCL's network.
From the Chairman's desk
"In more than four decades in this industry, one lesson has held true:
a shipment is usually won or lost before it reaches the port. The route, the equipment, the lifting plan, the permits and the inland move all must come together long before a vessel arrives. That is why we have our own offices across India's north, south, east and west, and in Shanghai, Singapore, Dubai, Hamburg and Houston. We want to be in the room when our customers are designing their projects, at both ends of the voyage.
India is going from being a country that exports goods to one that builds and ships entire capabilities: turbines, transformers, process plants, rail systems.
That calls for a different kind of logistics partner, one who understands engineering as well as freight, knows India on the ground and has its own presence in the world's key markets. An Indian company should be able to trust an Indian partner to carry its most critical cargo anywhere.
My message to India's manufacturers and EPC leaders is simple: treat logistics as part of your competitiveness strategy, not a cost line at the end of the project. Bring your logistics partner in early. Question the usual route, because the fastest route to site isn't always a road; sometimes it runs along our own coastline. The companies that plan this way will win on reliability, and reliability is what customers pay for." — Ashish Sheth, Founder, Chairman & Managing Director, Saksham Group
What SCL brings
From Ahmedabad and across its own offices in India and abroad, SCL works directly with manufacturers, exporters, importers, project owners and
EPC contractors. It offers a fully integrated service:
This is backed by the Group's own heavy-lift fleet, giving customers the certainty of an operator that owns the vessel as well as the plan.
Every new office brings SCL closer to where the world builds. As it expands, SCL will keep finding better ways to move the heaviest cargo, by land and by sea, across India and around the world.
