Navi Mumbai - Nhava Sheva Distribution Terminal (NSDT), a unit of India’s J M Baxi Ports & Logistics, has taken delivery of a 100-tonne capacity mobile harbour crane, according to sources.

NSDT consists of a shallow water berth and a dedicated coastal berth, with a quay length of 320 m and 250 m respectively. Following the takeover of both berths from the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA), NSDT is in the process of upgrading the existing infrastructure and facilities.

Part of this process, will be the delivery of three mobile harbour cranes. The first crane arrived at the facility on July 17 and will be put to work at the shallow water berth, as per sources. The following two cranes with similar capacities are scheduled for delivery by the end of August; one will join the first crane at the shallow water berth and the other will head to the coastal berth.

The introduction of the first mobile harbour crane at the terminal means it is better equipped to handle multipurpose cargoes – including containers, steel, bulk, breakbulk and project cargo – with greater efficiency.
