MUMBAI: The launching of the National Logistics Policy, supported by the PM Gati Shakti National Logistics Plan, is indeed a step in the right direction as it is futuristic, ambitious, achievable & plans to further strengthen India's position economically, said Mr. Sunil Vaswani, Executive Director of Container Shipping Lines Association (India) in his reaction to the launch of National Logistics Policy.
“The policy aims at reducing logistics cost from the current 13 / 14 pct to single digit by 2030, improving transparency & efficiency and helping further towards the ease of & doing business, through standardisation of warehouses, improvement in logistics / port connectivity, development of multi-modal hubs, digitisation & technology development.
The policy also aims at creation of job opportunities & generation of an employable workforce through skill development programmes.
“Introduction of ULIP (Unified Logistics Interface Platform) is another welcome move, which, through integration of 30 logistics systems of 7 Ministries / Departments, supports the Government as a planning tool and assists Inter-Ministerial collaboration for prioritising building of logistics infrastructure, thus giving a shot in the arm to infrastructure development.
Also, E-LOGS (Ease of Logistics Services), a single window for submission of logistics service-related issues / suggestions with digitized recording, tracking & resolution on a single dashboard enables timely resolution of issues.
All this would also help in the "Make in India" programme & the development of India into a global manufacturing hub.
“The increase in the export volumes due to increased manufacturing activity in India would be good for all the stake-holders & the country as a whole. So also, increased digitisation, improved logistics / port connectivity & reduced logistics / port costs would be beneficial to all. The policy's promotion of green logistics by aiming to increase the freight share of rail, Inland Waterways & Coastal Shipping is another welcome move.
