MUMBAI: Mr. L D Parekh, who was also known as Chotubhai, a true doyen of the maritime industry passed away in the late hours of Sunday (Feb. 19) due to a massive heart attack. It is a non-recoverable loss for entire Shipping Maritime Fraternity and Daily Shipping Times which has been closely associated with him, offers its deepest condolences to his family.  Nobody can forget him and his memories.

The iconic father figure of the shipping industry in India as well as in abroad, Mr L. D. Parekh, was a true pathfinder of the maritime sector. He took his company Parekh Group into a new peak with diversified business avenues with his vast experience in the field as well as played an important role in improving the way where shipping sector floats. His guidances and memories of old days will remain forever.

Shipping industry finds his solutions / path-outs in any type difficulties, though it may be governmental or corporate. He was always enthusiastic in any upgradation for the sector. His guidance support to everyone in the trade has made him to achieve the name for himself in whole maritime and shipping fraternity. He chaired almost all the shipping organisations like MANSA, AMTOI and has given his valuable constructive guidance in other associations.  He was also a very highly respected person in the maritime fraternity.

Soft spoken and always cheerful, Chotubhai, after completing his graduation in 1962 in Mumbai started a shipping services agency with prime focus on tramp and the break-bulk liner business.

Mr Parekh was a professional wildlife photographer as his personal interest and kept his signs of successful journey in many images of his experiences.

Chotubhai was associated with Mr. N K  Modi, founder of Daily Shipping Times, at the time when the paper was started in 1960. It was very strong positive and fruitful and we cannot forget his support and guidance towards Daily Shipping Times.

Those days cannot be forgotten when the shipping was in the initial stage and Chotubhai was always open with his ideas and right direction.

Also, he was the only person from shipping faternity who spoke at the demise of Mr. N K Modi expressing his views and grievances for the founder of
Daily Shipping Times. Chotubhai been very interactive and guiding known person in the trade who always supported everybody with his values in the best possible way. Today we cannot forget him and he will always be remembered in our trade and each and everyone of DST.

Daily Shipping Times will regret for the unbearable loss for his family, and pray to the Almighty for his soul’s peace.
