JAIGARH: The Maiden container vessel MV SSL Chennai called at JSW Jaigarh Port on 7th Nov 2015. It was the result of the last five years of hardship, opening the gateway for container movement in Kolhapur and peripheral sector.
JSW Jaigarh Port has recently taken steps for expansion by creation of additional stackyard equipped with modern Material Handling Systems. JSW Jaigarh Port is also constructing additional berths with dedicated facilities for handling of containers.
JSW Jaigarh Port is operating a multi-commodity Greenfield all-weather Port at Jaigarh (160 kms. from Kolhapur) for the past seven years.
The port has been operating with 2 berths. One berth handles mechanised facilities for import of coal, coke and iron ore while the second berth is a multi-cargo semi-mechanised facilities.
Since inception the port has been developing innovative and latest techniques in handling cargo.
The Port is also pioneer in India for using dedicated Covered Coal Shed to cater to the needs of Power Plant - JSW Energy Limited.
Neighbouring Regions like Ratnagiri, Chiplun - Mahad, Kolhapur, Satara, Sangli, Solapur, Belgaum, has major industrial base for Foundry, Textile, Sea-food, Agro Commodities etc.
The entire trade is presently operating from JNPT, Mumbai. With the facility available next door at Jaigarh Port (Near Ratnagiri) the distance has drastically reduced by 200 Kms making ease for all the exporters and for promotion of the trade. With this move, it is expected that container traffic of at least 2000 TEUs per month could be diverted to Jaigarh Port immediately.
This is yet another milestone achieved by JSW Jaigarh Port in this fiscal after they started receiving large Cape-size Vessels (180000 DWT +) from April 2015 & Signed the Concession Agreement in June for developing Port Rail Connectivity.
