MUMBAI: The long awaited mechanization of Shallow Draught Berth has been completed recently subsequent to shifting of three old RMQCs from Main Container Berth while augmenting Main Container Berth with three new Super Post Panamax cranes. The operations at Shallow Water Berth (SWB) commenced w.e.f.  23.02.2015.

Shri. Neeraj Bansal, IRS, Chairman In-Charge, JNPT while extending his compliments to M/s. Milaha Maritime & Logistics in their endeavour to start a new service to Doha via Jebal Ali invited the trade to make use of the mechanized facility at SWB to the maximum extent with their unstinted support.

The mechanization of SWB has opened the new business opportunities for handling smaller vessels with a LOA upto 184 mtrs for operating direct services to Gulf, Africa sectors etc. including coastal/feeder vessels. In a bid to encourage the Service Operators, JNPT has allotted fixed window slots to Agencies namely M/s Milaha Maritime & Logistics-Qatar, PIL Mumbai Pvt. Ltd & Oasis Shipping Pvt. Ltd.

On behalf of M/s Milaha Maritime & Logistics-Qatar, M/s. Poseidon Shipping Agency Pvt Ltd will be operating the Nhava Sheva Doha Express (NDX) service. The first vessel under NDX i.e. m.v. CONVENT (LOA 182.4 mtrs) has arrived at Shallow Water Berth on 20.03.2015 for handling 800 Export Import containers approx.

The NDX service is expected to benefit the Trade further (mainly the Shipper’s for Gulf sector) with a direct call to Doha on weekly basis along with other services currently operated from JNPT.
