MUMBAI: After being suspended for about two days due to the threat from ‘Cyclone Tauktae’, which crossed the Mumbai/Maharashtra coast on the evening of May 17, 2021 and the Gujarat coast on the evening of May 18, 2021, the Major and Private Ports on the coast like DPT, JNPT and APSEZ re-commenced operations according to sources. Berthing of vessels at the terminals and other activities are currently on as normal.

Deendayal Port Trust said in a communiqué that the Great Danger Storm Signal No. 8 has been lowered and Cautionary Signal No. 3 hoisted at the port. They added on 19th May that their Port operations have started in full swing–bearthing, unbearthing of vessels and tanker and cargo handling activities restored as usual.

Whereas JNPT’s all operations were temporarily suspended in compilance with the advisory received from the Govt. As the impact of the cyclone abates, JNPT is back to ensuring all critical supply chain requirements are being met.

Meanwhile, an APSEZ Circular dated May 18 informed of weather conditions at Mundra Port getting back to normal and resumption of shipping movements.

However, it could take till the end of this week for the backlog of vessels to be cleared, the sources said.
