NAVI MUMBAI: JNPT issues Work Order to M/s Boskalis International b.v. for the Capital Dredging project. This follows the signing of the Protocol Agreement with MbPT on 30th July, 2012 at New Delhi in the Ministry.
The Capital Dredging awarded on Assured Depth basis, which is the first of its kind for capital dredging in the country, envisages widening the navigational channel upto 370 m and deepening upto 14m draft using tidal window. The entire capital dredging for the 34km channel is expected to be completed within 25 months at an award price of Rs. 1219/- crores plus service tax (12.36%).
JNPT Chairman Shri L. Radhakrishnan, IAS, while awarding the contract said that the current Phase -I deepening and widening of channel help JNPT to accommodate 6,000+ TEUs vessels, which was long standing requirement of the trade.
But the deepening to 17m which is currently being designed by Tata Consultancy Engineers Ltd. and Ernest and Young Ltd. which will be cost more than Rs 5,000/- crores and will be implemented soon after Phase-I will be enable the largest ships of 15,000+ TEUs to call at JNPT.
