MUMBAI: The Centre’s bid to develop a mega port at Vadhavan near Dahanu in Maharashtra’s Palghar district has brightened after the change of Government in the State with Chief Minister
Shri Eknath Shinde said to be keen on the project despite growing protests from local fishermen and environmental groups.
DTEPA was set up by the Centre in 1991 as an oversight agency to “monitor” projects while notifying Dahanu taluka as an ecologically fragile area.
JNPA has approached the DTEPA in May this year for NOC after the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF & CC) said in a 26 May office memorandum that “setting up of port in Dahanu Taluka Ecologically Fragile Area may be considered subject to clearances under EIA Notification, 2006, CRZ Notification 2011 and clearance from DTEPA and other rules/regulations as applicable”.
