While addressing the gathering Mr. Neeraj Bansal, thanked his team, Trustees, labour union, trade fraternity and all its stake holders for their outstanding support in making JNPT a premier Port of the Country. He began by reminding the trade its journey of success when it began its operation way back in 1989 with an annual throughput of merely 33,000 TEUs while achieving an annual throughput of 4.47 Million TEUs in 2014-15. He was also confident of achieving 10-12 Million TEUs in another 5-7 years with the help of its existing expansion plans.

He stressed that it was challenging journey since last eleven years while dealing with the efficiency parameters of the JNPCT and how it was overcome with the support of all its stakeholders. He felt very proud in stating that the port has done a very commendable job since then on most of the efficiency parameters with hardly any waiting period and shut outs which were made possible only with the immense support of his dedicated team.

Speaking about congestion problem faced by the trade he allayed the fears by spelling out many concrete steps taken by the port officials in order to sort out the congestions in future.

He highlighted that Holding Yards have been made operational in order to reduce the trailers traffic with undocumented factory stuffed cargo boxes on the road. For this purpose the port has opened up nearly 15 hectare of Holding yards. He also assured the trade that Central Parking Plaza will be operational by the December 2016. Almost 37 hectare of parking area would be opened up in order to deal with congestion and traffic issues.

He laid special emphasis on the regular monitoring system which has been started with port officials reporting on the road congestion three times a day. Documentation and other processes have also been simplified with the discontinuation of pre-berthing meeting, which is now a online process. Apart from this, nearly 2.5 hours have been reduce at the liquid berth in order to accommodate more vessels. To make the port more efficient, he said that we are sitting with an open mind and our doors will always be open to sort out any problem faced in future.

Highlighting on the financial parameters, he said that JNPT is in a very comfortable position and some of the revenues will be utilized to develop new Ports and inland facility. JNPT plans to develop a new Port at Wadhwan near Dahanu in Maharastrta having a natural draught of 20 meters.

Speaking on the new initiative taken by the port to reach out its customer directly, JNPT had recently organized a trade meet in Ludhiana and Chandigarh. Transparency and congestion were the key concerns of the trade fraternity and they needed an assurance from Port management regarding the certainty of transaction cost and the likely time to be taken in the process of the overall transaction. He assured the trade that JNPT would be working on these parameters as well in serving them more efficiently in near future.

Mr. Pradip Agrawal – CEO, APM Terminals Mumbai (GTI) congratulated the JNPT Chairman and his team for creating a major milestone in achieving a throughput of 4.47 Million TEUs in last financial year. During last year APM Terminal too have achieved a milestone of 2.01 Million TEUs, which was the highest productivity and throughput ever achieved by APM Terminals Mumbai. Apart from listing several improvements at the port he especially highlighted how the gate process which use to take 8 to 10 minutes earlier has now come down to less than 3 minutes benefitting the export import trade community.

I especially thanks Mr. Neeraj Bansal Chairman, JNPT for taking special initiative in ending the recent stir at GTI and hoped that such problems would not occur in future.

Mr. Ajay Singh – CEO, DP World Nhava Sheva (NSICT) thanked JNPT for its continuous support which enabled DP World to create many milestones in the past. DP World has always been pioneers in addressing the issue concerning the shipping industry through innovations. Recently DP World has launched the Parking Plaza, which will help the trade in relieving the congestion problem.

Through inter-terminal transfers, nearly 50,000 trucks have been moved between JNPT and APM Terminals, resulting in a saving of almost 200 Thousand dollars. This is quite unique and happened for the first time in Nhava Sheva. On behalf of the DP World we would like to assure the trade that we will continue to innovate by bringing new technology and talent to enhance our services.

Capt. J. S Gill representing CSLA congratulated the JN Port for achieving tremendous results last year. I would like to highlight some of most important things done differently at the JNPT. The terminal came up with newer cranes, shallow water operations became much easier allowing more vessels to call shallow water apart from doing away with several restrictions and processes. This year when the JNPT changed their windows by allowing larger movement of cargoes we were very apprehensive as to how would they do it. But to our surprise, the JNPT team have really worked very hard indeed. The gate movement at the terminal in terms of productivity has gone up by almost 60% which is a tremendous task touching a peak of almost 3200 containers trucks going in and out in a single day. We congratulate once again for such a tremendous effort on the part of JNPT team. Though the problems do creep up with time but it can be controlled by all the stakeholders coming together so that the trade doesn’t suffer too much due to such problems. On behalf of CSLA i once again congratulate for the great performance achieved by the JNPT and hope that it would be sustained and enhanced further going ahead with the team effort of all the stakeholders.

Capt. Ram Iyer representing MANSA personally thanked and congratulated the Chairman and all the HODs of JNPT for their continuous enhancement in the volume growth of JNPT. The challenges do exist and will continue to exist in road networks, congestions and parking but I am sure that under the dynamic leadership of Mr. Neeraj Bansal, we will overcome and sort out all issues faced by the port and will continue to march forward.
