MUNDRA: Allcargo CFS, Mundra, took another proactive step towards training when they invited Maersk Training India to conduct a HAZMAT training program for their CFS team members in Mundra. This is the fourth of such HAZMAT training programs that Maersk Training India has delivered for Allcargo Logistics Limited. The first two training sessions were conducted in Mumbai followed by a third in Chennai and now in Mundra.

This proactive approach towards HAZMAT training was considered by Allcargo to increase general awareness levels of employees involved in the handling/ carriage/ stowage and transportation of Hazardous Materials.

The 2 days’ training program, conducted by Capt. Anoj Kumar Sarma, was aimed at enhancing awareness and generating a high degree of safety consciousness regarding the dangers associated with the exposure to handling, carriage, storage and transport of hazardous material. Participants were trained in the safe and correct methods of dealing with hazardous cargoes, including dealing with emergencies related to them.

The participants received a thorough introduction and grounding in the requirements and stipulations of the IMDG-Code, characteristics of different IMDG classes, methods of identifying hazardous materials based on the marking/ labeling/ placarding of containers and documentation requirements for the safe transport of dangerous cargoes.

Legal requirements and importance of proper storage/ segregation of hazardous materials were brought out through detailed reference to the IMDG code. Emergency response procedures and medical first aid was also discussed and participants were briefed regarding the importance of contingency planning and security arrangements.

Overall, it was a very effective program and at the end of it all, Allcargo CFS, Mundra, was left asking for more such fabulous sessions from Capt. Sarma of Maersk Training India.
