NAVI MUMBAI : GTI is our country's safest and most efficient container terminal.
It connects our country to the rest of the world and contributes significantly to our country's economy and our community.
It provides our community with employment both directly and indirectly.
We appeal to you to help us to keep GTI operational.
In May, 2012 some of the employees had instigated an illegal flash strike endangering the safety of the employees and equipment in the terminal.
Thereafter, as per company policy disciplinary action was initiated.
Subsequently a meeting was held with the members of Prakalpagrastha Sangharsha Samiti in the office of Deputy Commissioner of Police, Panvel and at the residence of Shri. D.B. Patil, President of the Samiti.
As agreed in the meeting, an Independent Enquiry was conducted giving all reasonable opportunities to the involved employees. Three workmen were found guilty in the enquiry, hence their services were terminated as per Company's Policy. Despite GTI having followed all the agreed action points, the Samiti demanded their reinstatement and called for an Agitation /Rasta Roko. To ensure normal operations, the company appealed to all concerned authorities including Hon'ble Civil Court, Uran. GTI has utmost respect for Shri D.B. Patil and has remained in constant dialogue with the Samiti. The company has made a humble Appeal to the Samiti not to resort to agitation/ Rasta Roko as this will impact the businesses and livelihood of families of this area. However, the Samiti has continued their call for an agitation / Rasta Roko from 8th October, 2012 onwards. Any stoppage of work at the port will cause huge financial losses to our country and the local community. This will also result in a shift in cargo away from JN Port to other ports in the country. GTI once again sincerely request/ appeal to Shri D.B. Patil and Samiti Members to allow normal functioning at JN Port.
