New Delhi - Adding another achievement in the area of agri export from east UP region, a consignment of Banarasi karaunda (Indian Cranberry) and amda (Hog Plum) was exported to Dubai for the first time from Varanasi. Besides, boda and parwal were also exported to Dubai.
About 1,800 kg of vegetables were sent by air cargo to Dubai through the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) recently. These vegetables were exported by an FPO (Farmers Producers Organisation) – North Agro Farmer Producer Company Limited. There has been an increase of 248% in export this year as compared to the first quarter of the last financial year.
“Vegetables like Hog Plum, Indian Cranberry, boda and parwal were exported to Dubai from Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport in Varanasi on Tuesday. The consignment of Cranberry and Hog Plum were sent to Dubai for the first time,” said APEDA deputy general manager CB Singh.
With the help of the Uttar Pradesh government, the production of vegetables and fruits has started as per the demand of the international market, he said. It resulted in increase of the demand of perishable products from Purvanchal (eastern UP) in the international market. Exports have increased by 248% in the first quarter of the financial year 2023-24 as compared to the first quarter of the financial year 2022-23.
APEDA has increased exports with the help of the state government by opening an office in Varanasi in 2020. Green chillies were sent to Britain by APEDA for the first time in April 2020 during the Covid period. Varanasi mainly exports green chillies, okra, parwal, green peas, mango, litchi, banana, kundru, guava, aruvi, drumstick, gourd, jackfruit, arvi, brinjal, amla, melon to the Gulf countries, Europe, Nepal, and Bangladesh.
