MUMBAI: Dr. Shri Prakash, Chairman and Mentor of Greenways Group left for his heavenly abode on April 12, 2018 in his Chennai residence leaving behind a vast legacy and fond memories. He was 98.
Ameya Group has expressed its heartfelt condolence on this huge loss for the entire Shipping Industry in general and particularly for them being a Guiding and Motivating force all throughout. “He inspired us to all at Ameya Group to think big and well ahead of the time. A person with positive and optimist outlook irrespective of the situations made him a true Shipping Stalwart who would be missed for years to come”, said a statement of Ameya Group on his sad demise.
Dr. Shri Prakash was not only a dynamic entrepreneur but also a Shipping Magnate and a philanthropist who worked tirelessly for more than Six decades.
Born in Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh, Dr. Shri Prakash was so passionate about learning that he went all the way to London to pursue his graduation from Prestigious London School of Economic (LSE).
Having started a small shipping business (Greenways Group) way back in the year 1962, he empowered Greenways Group to carve a special name for itself in the Shipping and Logistics Industry with his 6 decades of dedicated effort, unflinching support and guidance.
He also worked relentlessly for social cause over the years, wherein he found time to devote his physical and mental energy for the needy and lent a helping hand to the various philanthropic institutions in and around Chennai. He was associated with many social initiatives including free meal schemes, home for aged and orphans. However, working for blind people always remained close to his heart.
Dr. Shri Prakash’s work for the shipping fraternity over the years and his benevolence to the down-trodden were recognized across India and also at the International level. To name a few among the many felicitations received by him were Hudson Silva Award by Late President of Sri Lanka, Arthur Lim Gold Medal by Government of Singapore, Distinguished Leadership Award for Eradication of Blindness programs, For the Sake of Honor Award by Rotary club, Doctor of philosophy degree by Sri Lankan Open International University. The Times of India Group also conferred on him the Lifetime Achievement in the year 2017.
