NEW DELHI: The government has eased the export of alcohol-based hand sanitizers but prohibited the outward shipment of alcohol-based hand sanitizers in containers with dispenser pump.

"Alcohol-based hand sanitizers exported in containers with dispenser pump…are prohibited for export,” directorate general of foreign trade (DGFT) said in a notification.

The government on May 6 had prohibited the export of all alcohol-based hand sanitizers.

“Alcohol-based hand sanitizers exported in any other form or packaging are free for exports, with immediate effect,” DGFT said in the notification.

On March 24, India had prohibited the exports of hand sanitisers, soaps, washing and cleaning preparations, disinfectants and medicaments. It had also banned the export of ventilators, artificial respiratory apparatus, oxygen therapy apparatus, and any other breathing appliance due to the coronavirus outbreak in the country.
