COSCO SHIPPING's Customized Services and New Routes Bolster China's Auto Exports to International Markets

Beijing - Since the beginning of this year, the export volume of Chinese brand commercial vehicles has witnessed a significant increase. The rapid development of the new energy vehicle (NEV) market has presented both opportunities and challenges for the logistics and transportation industry. As the number of customers exporting vehicles continues to rise, COSCO SHIPPING Lines is working closely with car manufacturers to offer customized services and establish new routes to cater to the diverse requirements of a larger customer base.

Launch full-chain logistics service featuring long-distance truck delivery + marine transportation for NEV exports

On July 3, the first batch of 152 Dolphin electric vehicles produced by a BYD factory in Fuzhou, Jiangxi Province, and carried by COSCO SHIPPING Lines were containerized and loaded on board after undergoing long-distance transportation and customs clearance. The ship departed from Yantian Port for Europe.

Following more than a month of meticulous planning, careful consideration, and thorough preparation, COSCO SHIPPING Lines (Huanan) leveraged the new BYD factory in Fuzhou as a pilot effort to expand its long-distance vehicle transportation business. This move enabled the company to establish a full-chain service model that includes long-distance consignment as an innovative feature to ensure the stable operation of the BYD project. Moreover, it marks the first step made by COSCO SHIPPING to build a NEV export network in Shenzhen.

A significant aspect of BYD's car export demand is the requirement to ship a substantial amount of vehicles on the same vessel. However, every step of this comprehensive service is intricately connected to one another. The new long-distance truck delivery service, which serves as the initial stage of the entire logistics chain, involves multiple connections with the customer, truck fleet, and warehouse. It also requires meticulous security management of various details and precise quality control at each step. The challenges associated with this task are evident.

To ensure smooth operations, COSCO SHIPPING Lines (Huanan) established a dedicated team to effectively communicate and coordinate with the customer, truck fleet, and warehouses. The team carefully assessed and addressed factors such as timing, risk prediction and warning, and response to potential complications. Each party involved fulfilled their respective responsibilities, from vehicle pick-up to transportation. Despite unforeseen obstacles, the team successfully fulfilled the consignment task with both high quality and quantity.
