New Delhi - The Hon’ble Union Minister of Commerce & Industry, Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution and Textiles, Shri Piyush Goyal, gave away the 7th and 8th Set of FIEO Northern Region Export Excellence Awards to the outstanding exporters and service providers based on their excellent export performance and incremental growth in exports. Speaking on the occasion, the Union Commerce and Industry Minister said that Indian businesses have the agility and ability to come out of the challenges being faced by slowing growth and ongoing geo-political tensions. He said that India has emerged as the engine of growth and its success in every field goes to show the strength of our economy.

The CIM added that the successful completion of G20 Trade and Investment Ministerial Meetings and the B20 Business Leaders Summits from more than 50 countries have once again reiterated India's commitment of One Earth, One Family and One Future. Further with the G20 Leaders Summit being organised from September 9-10, 2023, India can truly become a trusted partner of the world and will lead the global growth process and become a prosperous nation. The Minister also added that with India taking such a giant step in the space sector by becoming the first country in the world to land on the Moon's south pole, we may soon see participation of the private sector. Mr. Goyal talking about reaching the exports US$ 2 Trillion by 2030, expressed that digitization and tech adoption will truly harness the potential of India. We also need to think big and improve the quality of our products and services besides focussing on sustainability as the world is looking to work, trade and partner with India. Further as we are moving from US$ 3.5 Trillion to a US$ 35 Trillion economy by 2047, India would be presenting the greatest business opportunity for the mankind.

FIEO President, Dr A Sakthivel in his address congratulated all the award winners and mentioned that under the dynamic leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, our exporters have risen up to the challenge and exhibited remarkable export performance. Recently signed FTAs with the UAE and Australia are expected to give a significant boost to exports and bilateral trade. Additionally, we are currently in the process of finalizing FTAs with the UK, Canada and Israel, with hopes of signing them very soon. The impressive infrastructure created at the Bharat Mandapam, with grand seating capacity of 7,000 within the Convention Centre further reinforces India’s ability to organise world-class events on a large-scale, helping better showcase Indian products and services to the global audiences, added Dr A Sakthivel.

President, FIEO further reiterated that the G20 Trade and Investment Minister meeting at Jaipur championed the cause of MSMEs, pushing digitization of trade processes, inclusion of India in the resilient value chain, focus on MRAs for our professionals and long overdue reform of WTO. Successful conclusion of B20 meetings in New Delhi won the affection and accolade of all the participants particularly the Ministers, from across the globe. Now, the stage is all set for the G20 Leadership Summit on 9th and 10th September, 2023, when our beloved Prime Minister, with his vision and thoughts, will mesmerize the World. Dr Sakthivel also thanked the Commerce Secretary, DGFT and other officers of the Ministry of Commerce & DGFT. FIEO Chief exuded confidence of achieving the milestone of US$ 2 Trillion exports much before 2030.

Dr Ajay Sahai, DG & CEO, FIEO while addressing the gathering, shared that the exemplary performance shown by outstanding exporters during the covid times showcases the resilience of the Indian exports sector. Dr Sahai further added that soon, we will see revival in exports growth starting from August 2023. However, reiterating the concerns of the sector, DG & CEO, FIEO said that non-trade issues including resolving environment and labour has become the buzzword for the future of international trade. With more and more developed countries opting for CBAM regulations, need of the hour is to sensitize the trade and industry on these isssues and new ESG norms, to be future ready in the field of foreign trade.

Mr Raj Kumar Malhotra, Regional Chairman (Northern Region), FIEO thanked the Hon’ble CIM, FIEO President and all the stakeholders for recognizing the contribution of exporters and other agencies engaged in export promotion. Mr Malhotra also added that presentation of FIEO’s Northern Region Export Excellence Awards by the Hon’ble Minister has not only encouraged our exporters, but will also inspire them to meet emerging global challenges. He congratulated all the award winners, and wish them continued success in their multi-faceted business ventures.
