
BEIJING : China’s freight industry has seen a significant surge in the first half (H1) of 2023, as per data by the ministry of transport. The country’s freight volume increased by 6.8 per cent year-on-year (YoY) to 25.93 billion tons from January to June.
The road cargo transportation sector particularly flourished, marking a 7.5 per cent YoY increase, amounting to 19.01 billion tons. Air cargo transport also saw a rise, with 3.28 million tons transported, reflecting a 6.4 per cent increase from the same period in the previous year, according to local media reports.
Additionally, port throughput rose by 8 per cent to 8.19 billion tons, and container throughput reached 150 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), up by 4.8 per cent YoY.
