Capt. Sunil Thapar selected as SCI CMD

MUMBAI / NEW DELHI : Capt. Sunil Thapar, who is currently Director of the Shipping Corporation of India’s (SCI) Bulk Carriers and Tankers division, has been selected by the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) as the next Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of SCI.
 
His name has been recommended for the post by the PESB (Ministry of Personnel), it is learnt.
 
Capt. Thapar will succeed Mr S. Hajara, whose tenure as CMD ends on December 31 this year. Mr Hajara has been CMD since September 2005.
 
Capt. Sunil Thapar has been Director of the Bulk Carriers and Tankers division since January 2011. He holds a Master (Foreign Going) Certificate of Competency issued by the Ministry of Shipping and MSc (Shipping Management) from the World Maritime University, Malmo, Sweden. He is a life member of the Company of Master Mariners of India.
 
After joining SCI in 1974, Capt. Thapar sailed for 13 years before coming ashore in 1987. He has vast experience in shipping management, business development, chartering, liner and container shipping, bulk carriers, tankers and offshore services.
