
Brihanmumbai Custom Brokers Association (BCBA), under the able leadership of President Mr. Dushyant Mulani, celebrated its 87th Founders’ Day on Tuesday, 19th December 2023 at IMC Hall, Churchgate, Mumbai with the presence of topmost officials from the Customs Department.
Mr. Sanjeev Harale, Senior Vice President of BCBA, welcomed the dignitaries on the dais and gave the opening remarks.
Shri. Surjit Bhujabal, Member Customs, CBIC New Delhi congratulated and highlighted the stellar role played by BCBA as a strong link between the members, Customs and other stakeholders. He appreciated the good practices which has been put in place by BCBA and the critical role for supporting in implementing CBLMS as well as imparting training and skill development. He further mentioned that BCBA has been very forthcoming and working in very close coordination with CBIC and all customs Zones for trade facilitation and attending to member grievances pertaining to trade and fraternity.
Principal Chief Commissioner of Customs, Mumbai Zone I, Shri. P.K. Agrawal graced the occasion along with Shri. Rajesh Pandey, Chief Commissioner of Customs, Mum Zone II , Smt. Prachi Saroop, Chief Commissioner of Customs, Mum Zone III, Shri. Unmesh Wagh, Deputy Chairman, JN Port Authority, Shri Sunil Jain, Principal Commissioner of Customs, Mum Zone I as well as Commissioners of Customs, Mum Zone I, Mr. Aslam Hasan Ms. Priya Goel, Mr. Vivek Pandey.


Shri. P. K. Agrawal congratulated BCBA and the members on the occasion and gave a very enlightening speech. He complimented the Custom Brokers who have served the trade through decades and encouraged the next Gen to continue with the same zeal. He highlighted the importance of Logistics and encouraged the Customs Brokers to provide end-to-end solutions to the importers and exporters by providing the trade facilitation measures introduced by the customs department. He also stressed the importance of sustainability as a responsibility towards the environment and future generations.
Shri. Unmesh Wagh, Deputy Chairman, JNPA, gave an impactful speech pointing out to the Customs Brokers about their increasing importance in the future. He appreciated BCBA’s active involvement in imparting training and skill development and orientation for the upcoming Vadhvan Port and valued the partnership in facilitating trade friendly environment.
Shri Rajesh Pandey, Chief Commissioner of Customs, Mum Zone II acknowledged the vital role played by BCBA in advocating Compliance and spreading awareness about the best trade practices amongst its’ members. He congratulated BCBA on this momentous day and requested the continued co-operation in actively highlighting the issues so it can be addressed to benefit all.
Smt. Prachi Saroop, Chief Commissioner of Customs, Mum Zone III spoke high about the technological advancements in which BCBA has successfully progressed but proposed to strive further to innovate and introduce many more efficient tools for smooth processes in handling clearance and movement of goods.
Shri. Sunil Jain, Principal Commissioner of Customs, Mum Zone I advocated the high spirit of BCBA which has always been seen in its services to members on every occasion and the tremendous support in implementing CBLMS and carrying out various training programmes. He was impressed with the Youth participation and congratulated them for taking the legacy of BCBA forward.


Eminent lawyer Mr. Sujay Kantawala spoke very effectively about safeguarding the interest of the Custom Brokers, being the most important link and interface between trade and department. President, Mr. Dushyant Mulani requested Mr. Sujay Kantawala to design an SOP Standard operating procedure and check list, sample contract for BCBA members for their clients importers and exporters.
BCBA President Shri. Dushyant Mulani conveyed that Customs Broker is at the core of the fast-paced developing Logistics Industry and is a force multiplier. He appealed to his members to allocate the resources in terms of optimising the business model to generate higher revenues and at the same time run the business in a more ethical way. This was the need of the hour, as the role of Custom Brokers will become more dynamic in the days to come with the multifold opportunities coming with the National Logistics Policy. He appraised that this fraternity generates maximum first-time employment opportunities and young entrepreneurs in the supply chain space as well as promotes women empowerment. He showcased a fantastic video prepared as a tribute to the Founders’ of BCBA.

The dignitaries and the Board of Advisors along with the entire managing committee of BCBA celebrated the moment by cutting the cake and the session concluded with a Vote of Thanks by the Hon. Secretary Mr. Nirav Thakker which was followed by high tea.
The packed hall with over 175 participants, gave a loud round of applause for the wonderful program conducted on the 87th Founders’ day of BCBA as well as the motivating speeches by the distinguished honourable guests and carried a sense of pride for their profession and the association.
