NEW DELHI: Mr. Nailesh Gandhi, President of The Bombay Custom House Agent’s Association has been conferred the “WCO Certificate of Merit” which was presented by Shri Pranab Mukherjee, Hon’ble Finance Minister on February 2, 2012 during a function held at Delhi to celebrate the completion of 50th year of Customs Act 1962 and International Customs Day.

The award was in recognition of the contribution made by Mr. Nailesh Gandhi on important subjects. The Government recognizes Mr. Gandhi’s contribution on Self Assessment, Budget Proposals, changes required in policies and procedures and Macro policy issues.
The Customs have recognized the role played by Mr. Nailesh Gandhi in the successful migration from ICES 1 version software to ICES version 1.5 and present a concept paper on the Self Assessment regime in Customs and its need for clarification of roles, responsibilities, and accountability of various stake holders.
The WCO certification of Merit is awarded by World Customs Organisation every year on the International Customs day which falls on 26th January all over the world.
In India as 26th January is Republic Day, the International Customs Day is celebrated on 27th January. This year the International Customs day has been coincided with celebration of 50 years of achievements under Customs Act 1962.
Besides this, Mr. Nailesh Gandhi was involved with Customs in streamlining the process and flow chart of EDI system, message designing of EDI, ICE Gate, ICSE, Dock track system, Digital Signatures and Security, Custom policy matters, Budget preparation, Study on infrastructure at Airport and Movement of Cargo and providing valuable inputs on Self Assessment.
It appears that BCHAA has made it a habit to be in National /International
news as last year BCHAA advisor, Mr. Naval Mehta was awarded the “WCO Certificate of Merit” for his contribution to the promotion of knowledge and excellence in the field of Customs functioning.
Customs officers and representatives of private sector were awarded the “ WCO certificate of Merit” for their support and dedication and contribution to the functioning of the Customs.
Mr. Nailesh Gandhi is the Trustee of Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust and has been the Office Bearer of The Bombay Custom House Agents’ Association for the last 5 years and during this period he represented the Association on various Committees formulated by Air & Sea Customs, Mumbai & JN Port, Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of Shipping and forums of Trade bodies.
He is also President of Forwarder’s Club and Vice Chairman of Federation of Freight Forwarders Association in India known as FFFAI an apex body of all India Custom House Agents Associations, Managing Committee member of Association of Multimodal Transport Operators of India and representative on Custom Advisory Committee, Associated with Customs and BCHAA from 1995 for setting up the computers/EDI System, CII Logistics sub-committee, SCOPE – Air Committee, DDI Committee.
During his term as the President of BCHAA, Mr. Nailesh Gandhi has designed and developed a state of art interactive website for BCHAA, promoted and developed Training for members and introduced E-learning. He is actively participating in National and International conferences.
Besides serving The Bombay Custom House Agents’ Association and Federation of Freight Forwarders Association in India Mr. Nailesh Gandhi is the Director of M/s.Express Transport Pvt.Ltd. company established in the year 1946 and having pan India presence .
He has been instrumental in expanding his company’s business of custom clearance, project forwarding, Freight Forwarding, supply chain, contract logistics, supply of heavy material handling equipment. He is on the Board of Directors of various other concerns of Express Group.
