Deendayal Port, Kandla working to be Water Neutral

An event titled *Water Neutrality of Deendayal Port, Kandla* was organized on 21st December 2023. Workshop was part of the objective of the port to achieve ‘water neutrality’. The event was chaired by Dr. S. K. Sarkar, IAS (Retd.) former Secretary, Ministry of Jal Shakti and Shri S.K. Mehta, IFS, Chairman, Deendayal Port Authority. Shri Nandeesh Shukla, IRTS, Deputy Chairman, Deendayal Port Authority and Shri V. Raveendra Reddy, Chief Engineer also encouraged the participants with their presence. During his speech Dr. Sarkar motivated the officers to adopt water conservation and rainwater harvesting, which is necessary to be a responsible citizen. He highlighted the necessity to prevent misuse of water and make maximum use of every drop of water. Shri S.K. Mehta, IFS, Chairman outlined that Deendayal Port aims to achieve water neutrality in next few years. For the purpose, port is setting up an advanced desalination plant and will install ‘air to water’ system in the port. Also, port will work for the management of water demand for agriculture sector and the farmers around the port area. For the purpose, Sang river watershed has been identified and The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), New Delhi is preparing a detailed plan for the purpose. Additionally, port will work for the capacity building and awareness generation of residents of the area for conservation of water. Once water neutral, Deendayal port will be first major port in the country to have achieved this milestone.
