JN Port creates history by handling 4.467 million TEUs in 2014-15

NAVI MUMBAI : Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JN Port) has maintained its numero uno position by handling 4.467 million TEUs of Container Traffic during the financial year 2014-15, which is the highest ever container traffic since inception of the port.
 
The Port handled 4.467 million TEUs of container traffic registering growth of 7.33% during the financial year 2014-15 and 56.13%of the total container throughput of the country’s Major Ports. Out of the total traffic of 4.467 million TEUs, the share of the JNPCT was 1.294 million TEUs ( 28.97%), the share of NSICT was 1.160 million TEUs (25.97%) and the remaining 2.012 million TEUs (45.06%) were contributed by  APM Terminals Mumbai (GTI).
 
The Port handled 63.80 million tonnes of cargo during Financial Year 2014-15. The growth in the total traffic is 2.36% as compared to the previous year’s traffic of 62.33 million tonnes. Out of the 63.80 million tonnes of total cargo handled during the financial year 2014-15, the containerized cargo was 56.93 million tonnes (89.24%), liquid cargo was 6.19 million tonnes (9.70%) & remaining 0.68 million tonnes (1.06%) was miscellaneous types of dry bulk cargo/break bulk cargo. In fiscal 2014-15, Jawaharlal Nehru Port ranked 3rd among the Major Ports.
 
JN Port handled 63.80 million tonnes of cargo.
 
Mr. Ashish Kumar Bose Chief Manager Traffic while addressing the trade highlighted the performance of the port here on April 7, 2015 at the cake-cutting ceremony.
 
Mr. Neeraj Bansal JNPT Chairman in his elaborate address, that JNPT is on the verge of expanding its capacity and explained its road map and also challenges before Port to sustain growth and meet trade’s demand with better coordination among the stakeholders. Cautioning stakeholders and his colleagues, JNPT Chairman Mr. Bansal said, “While celebrating success, we must look at the road ahead and challenges. Do not be complacent, that trade will come to business come what may. Those days are gone.” Stating that JNPT was competing with other ports including private ports, Mr. Bansal said, “We are going with a huge expansion and there will be huge business. We have to grow not only in terms of volume, but also in terms of good practices. Please do introspection come back to us.”
 
He also said that nothing was hidden from the Government, “There is lot of concerns about ease of doing business in India and bring down the cost of import export cargo. We are here to facilitate export import trade. We are not someone who would close eyes from reality.”
 
Concluding his view on a positive note, Mr. Bansal told the terminal operators, “Your business should double and your profit should improve in the next few years as also your bonding with JNPT he added”.
 
Other stakeholders present at the meeting too expressed optimism about sustaining the growth.
 
Mr. Surjit Singh of NSICT, Capt. Dhawal of GTI, Mr. Suresh N. Amirapu, CEO of PSA, Mr. Nazban Mehta of DP World, Mr. Shukla of BPCL, Mr. Hiren Ved from MANSA and Capt. Gill representing CSLA also spoke on the occasion and all congratulated JNPT for this remarkable achievement this year.
 
Mr. Sailesh Bhatia President AMTOI also gave his good wishes to JNPT and he said JNPT will see better years ahead. Mr. Bhushan Patil, Ex Labour Trustee also spoke on the occasion, JNPT has a very bright future, he congratulated all the terminals for this remarkable achievement and performance.
