IMW 2025 : Steering India’s Green Maritime Transition

Mumbai - The Directorate General of Shipping, Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, participated in the ABB Maritime Decarbonization Day 2025, held on 27 October 2025 at JW Marriott Sahar, Mumbai. Delivering the keynote address, Shri Shyam Jagannathan, IAS, Director General of Shipping, spoke on “India’s Maritime Ambition towards Decarbonization under Maritime India Vision 2030 and Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047.” He highlighted India’s policy-driven approach to accelerate maritime decarbonization, clean energy adoption, and sustainable port development, emphasizing collaboration between government, industry, and technology providers. The event featured a panel discussion on “India’s Journey Towards Maritime Decarbonization – Are We Future Ready?”, where experts from DNV, Chowgule and Company - Shipbuilding Division, Vedam Design, The Great Eastern Shipping Co. Ltd and ABB discussed technological advancements, infrastructure readiness, and collaborative models for achieving net-zero goals. A series of technical sessions showcased ABB’s cutting-edge solutions, including Grid-to-Propeller systems, Shaft Generator technology, Shore-to-Ship Power (SPS), Hybrid Propulsion (DFE+), and Fleet Decarbonization retrofits, along with a case study highlighting successful local service integration ensuring 100% vessel uptime. The discussions reinforced India’s growing leadership in green shipping, innovation, and energy efficiency, aligning national efforts with global sustainability goals and IMO’s Net Zero 2050 vision.
