Taipei - Wan Hai Lines actively fulfills its corporate sustainability commitments by subscribing to the first batch of products from the Taiwan Carbon Exchange, obtaining 2,000 tons of carbon credits certified by the international accreditation unit Gold Standard. In addition to supporting water and economic development projects in developing countries through carbon credits, Wan Hai offers carbon offset for its Japan-Taiwan route segment, inviting customers to join in environmental conservation efforts.
The health and sanitation issues in Africa and India have been long-term concerns for the Wan Hai Group. The subscription to carbon credits for Africa’s well project and India’s renewable energy aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related to health and well-being, clean water and sanitation, affordable and clean energy, and climate action.
Wan Hai has selected its flagship route, the JTS Service from Japan to Taiwan, for voluntary carbon offsetting from February 27 to March 12. This initiative aims to create a carbon-offset route service for long-time supporters of Wan Hai. The route is equipped with the latest high-efficiency smart vessels and various energy-saving devices, enhancing fuel efficiency and reducing carbon dioxide emissions through data tracking and analysis. Wan Hai hopes to plant the seeds of environmental protection through this action and encourages customers to participate in energy-saving and carbon reduction initiatives.
Environmental protection and sustainable operation have always been integral to Wan Hai’s business philosophy. With a commitment to the 2050 net-zero target, Wan Hai focuses on fleet renewal, investment in energy-efficient engines and equipment, and enhancing fuel efficiency while reducing carbon dioxide emissions through close monitoring and data analysis. In 2023, Wan Hai collaborated with Standard Chartered Bank to integrate sustainability performance with ship financing, supporting environmentally friendly financial solutions. The “Wan Hai Planting Tree” project, launched in 2022, centers on tree planting, actively engaging stakeholders through tree planting events, beach cleaning activities, and providing subsidies for green energy equipment to contribute to Taiwan’s ecological environment.
