NEW DELHI: Strengthening India’s domestic manufacturing, making India self-reliant in many products and a separate chapter on e-commerce could be highlights of the upcoming Foreign Trade Policy (FTP). These issues were discussed in a meeting that Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal held with industry chambers and exporters of around 10 sectors ahead of the validity of the existing policy ending on March 31.
At present, tax benefits are provided under merchandise export from India scheme (MEIS) for goods and services export from India scheme (SEIS).
In the new policy, changes are expected in incentives given to goods as the current export promotion schemes had been challenged by the US in the dispute resolution mechanism of the World Trade Organisation (WTO).
