VOC Port to create Deep draft facility at Entrance channel & Dock basin

TUTICORIN: The entrance channel of VOC Port Tuticorin will have depth of 16.70 meters and the dock basin will permit vessels requiring a depth of 16.10 meters soon as the Port Authorities have embarked on a massive Inner harbor optimization Project Chairman of the Port T K Ramachandran said.

Addressing the members of the trade and the Port employees after hoisting the national flag at the port premises as part of the Independence Day celebrations he said the Port’s entrance channel will be widened from 153 meters to 230 meters, according to an official release.

Steps taken to make the Container Terminal, berth no 9, Gateway port for mainline vessels

Steps are also taken to make the Container Terminal planned on berth number nine to grow from the current status of container feeder port to Transshipment hub and Gateway port for mainline vessels

Coastal Employment Unit

The Chairman also announced that the Port has identified 702 acres of Port land for development of Coastal Employment Unit in which food processing, Garments, machinery and other export oriented industries can be developed as part of the Sagar Mala initiative of the Shipping Ministry.

The Coastal Employment Unit would increase economic activity creating employment opportunity of over 8000 jobs and generate additional cargo throughput of around one Million Tons per annum.

Independence Day has been celebrated by V.O.Chidambaranar Port Trust in a grand manner at Port’s School ground The celebrations to mark the 73rd Independence Day of India commenced with the hoisting of the national flag by  Chairman of the port T.K. Ramachandran. Thereafter, he took salute from CISF, Port Fire Service and NCC students of Port Schools.
