NEW DELHI: The Centre has notified the Major Port Authorities Act, 2021 within the gazette after it was signed into regulation by the President Ram Nath Kovind.
The regulation was handed by Parliament on February 10.
The Act will convert 11 of the 12 ports run by the Central authorities into “authorities” from the present “trustee” set-up, within the largest structural reform of state-owned ports ever tried by any authorities.
Chennai Port Belief, Cochin Port Belief, Jawaharlal Nehru Port Belief (close to Mumbai), Deendayal Port Belief (Kandla), Shyama Prasad Mookerjee Port Belief (Kolkata), Mumbai Port Belief, New Mangalore Port Belief, Mormugao Port Belief, Paradip Port Belief, V.O.Chidambaranar Port Belief (Thoothukudi) and Visakhapatnam Port Belief might be introduced below the brand new Act.
Presently, these 11 ports operate as trusts below a regulation framed greater than 5 a long time in the past referred to as the Main Port Trusts Act 1963.
